Traditional cataract operations with phacoemulsification day surgery
Cataract operations can be carried out as soon as the patient and the doctor agree that vision has become so bad that it affects the patient's quality of life. It involves a day surgery operation; there is therefore no need for hospitalisation. It is carried out with local anaesthesia with only some collyrium drops. Patients feel no pain even though they are awake. The universally used technique is phacoemulsification, which guarantees immediate visual recovery and a significant reduction of complications. The operation lasts 15-20 minutes according to the procedure used and after some hours the patients may go home.
